Next steps for developing EV rollout and charging infrastructure in the UK

Morning, Monday, 11th December 2023

This conference will discuss next steps for developing the electric vehicle and charging markets across the UK.

With the Government delaying the ban on sales of petrol and diesel vehicles to 2035 but retaining targets for ZEV rollout, it will be an opportunity to assess practicalities of transitioning to net zero car and van transportation.

Delegates will consider strategies and frameworks for stakeholder and policy coordination to enable successful transition across all its stages, including priorities for investment, management of costs and affordability, development, design and accessibility of charging infrastructure, and addressing grid network capacity.

Further sessions examine wider challenges including manufacturing issues, global and domestic supply chains, addressing environmental and decarbonisation practicalities, and assessing targets.

We are pleased to be able to include keynote sessions with: Dr Bob Moran, Deputy Director, Decarbonisation Strategy, Department for Transport; David Wong, Head of Technology and Innovation, Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders; Lorna McAtear, Fleet Manager, National Grid; Karl Anders, Managing Director, Mer; and Ian Plummer, Commercial Director, Auto Trader.

Overall, sessions in the agenda include discussion on:

  • market dynamics: key trends - competition, innovation, marketing and EV rollout - EVs in the wider ZEV and vehicle market
  • policy: strategies and priorities for enabling a coordinated approach to EV transition and developing charging infrastructure - providing stability and certainty for stakeholders and investors
  • EV manufacturing: EVs in the wider vehicle market - addressing critical materials and supply chain issues - maintenance issues and the second-hand market
  • R&D: priorities for development and innovation in vehicles, components, storage technology and charging systems - financing and investment - assessing deliverability and accessibility
  • charging network: options for a more effective charging market and interoperability - maximising capacity and ensuring network capability - developing infrastructure accessibility
  • consumers: addressing concerns of affordability, reach and distance - marketing strategies for maximising EV ownership - innovation in charging networks, and kerbside and home charging

The conference will be an opportunity for stakeholders to consider the issues alongside key policy officials who are due to attend from Building Digital; CCS; DAERA, NI; DBT; Defra; Department for the Economy, NI; Department of Finance, NI; DESNZ; DfE; DfT; DWP; GLD; HMRC; HM Treasury; Homes England; House of Commons Library; HSE; Isle of Man Government; MOD; OBR; ONS; Planning Inspectorate; UKIB; The Scottish Government; and the Welsh Government - as well as parliamentary pass-holders from the House of Commons.
