Next steps for transport in the North of England: infrastructure, economic growth and the role of Metro Mayors

Morning, Tuesday, 18th July 2017

Renaissance Marriott, Blackfriars Street, Manchester M3 2EQ

THIS EVENT IS CPD CERTIFIED

Please note that this seminar will take place in Central Manchester.

This conference will consider the next steps for transport policy in the North of England, looking at infrastructure, public transport and the implications for regional development.

It will be a timely opportunity to discuss the way forward for devolving transport powers, with Transport for the North (TfN) expected this year to become England’s first sub-national transport body, contributing increased guidance on policy formation and investment based around local requirements.

Delegates will discuss how best to ensure this new structure can develop strategies for improving the transport network and the possible implications for economic development across the North of England, as well as the potential contribution of local government and newly-elected Metro Mayors.

In light of the TfN’s recent Initial Road Network and Initial Integrated Rail reports, delegates will evaluate prospects for integrated transport infrastructure that can significantly improve Northern England’s access to markets both domestically and internationally, including how to maximise the benefits of surface transport links to the Northern ports and airports.

Sessions also discuss the research and planning requirements for facilitating connectivity across the region, and the potential impact of the High Speed 2 Phase 2A Bill in the Queen’s Speech, which will grant the powers to build and operate the next phase of the HS2 project between Birmingham and Crewe.
