This seminar will focus on the challenges and opportunities for law firms, regulators and wider stakeholders for improving diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.
It is timed as legal regulators develop new diversity strategies in response to new guidance set out by the Legal Services Board last year.
Delegates will consider what more can be done to improve access to legal professions for candidates from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, looking at the role of the legal education and training framework, and issues around recruitment practices.
Further discussion will consider the priorities for law firms in developing inclusive workplace cultures, and supporting the integration of key groups - with latest thinking on the opportunities for increasing the adoption of flexible working practices and diversifying senior management roles, as well as identifying and addressing causes of workplace stress.
In the context of Government’s recent response to the Lammy review of race disparity in the Criminal Justice System, delegates will also discuss what further action might be taken to improve diversity within the judiciary and magistracy.
Sessions are expected to bring together policymakers and regulators with a range of representatives from across the legal services market - including law firms, chambers and other legal employers - alongside professional bodies, unions, charities, campaign groups and reporters from the trade and national media.
