THIS EVENT IS CPD CERTIFIED
This seminar will bring together policymakers with key stakeholders to assess next steps for the Northern Powerhouse, and for supporting regional growth across the North of England.
It will be an opportunity to discuss key themes from the consultation responses to Transport for the North on its Strategic Transport Plan - and its proposals for the creation of strategic development corridors, a long term rail strategy, a new system of integrated and smart travel, and major road network improvements.
The seminar also follows the announcement of up to £780 million for major upgrades to the East Coast Main Line, and will also be an opportunity to discuss the allocation of the previously agreed £400 million of extra transport funding, which includes £100 million towards local road schemes to reduce congestion and £300 million of funding for Northern Powerhouse Rail.
Further sessions will examine the impact on growth and innovation for universities across the region, how the North can develop as a cultural hub following the announcement of a new £3m fund to support creative and cultural organisations, and the issues facing business in promoting economic growth locally.
Delegates will also discuss the initial impact of the introduction of Metro Mayors in the region with the Sheffield City Region electing its first Metro Mayor - as well as the future for governance in the Powerhouse as the Government announces legislation to progress the £600m North of Tyne Devolution Deal, enters into discussions with the Liverpool City Region and Tees Valley to explore scope for further devolution and the proposed formation of the NP11 which aims to act as one voice representing a modern day ‘Council for the North.'
