The conference examined the next steps for developing the TEF, looking at key themes emerging from the DfE’s consultation on the methodology of the subject-level TEF.
Delegates discussed the lessons gained from the first year of subject-level pilots and considered how the pilot could be built upon moving forward, addressing concerns from the sector regarding the administrative burden on academics and small providers, and the balance between quantitative and qualitative submissions.
Attendees also discussed the shape of the TEF for year 4 and how the framework can best be developed to ensure flexibility, whilst addressing student and staff concerns around institutional diversity and the link between the TEF and tuition fees.
Further sessions also addressed what further steps might be taken to improve the Framework’s metrics - looking in part at issues around the introduction of teaching intensity and graduate earnings.
