The future for regulation of the private rented housing sector

November 2018

Price: £95 PLUS VAT
Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

This conference brought together policymakers and key stakeholders to discuss the future for regulation of the private rented sector - looking at key issues around standards and consumer redress.

It was an opportunity for delegates to consider the likely impact of the Tenant Fees Bill on the market, and the further action that might be taken to give more protection to both landlords and tenants.

Those attending discussed what more might be done to provide greater consumer redress, in light of the Government’s consultation which considered plans for the creation of a single housing ombudsman and options for promoting the use of mediation and out-of-court resolutions.

Further sessions assessed the implications of the Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Bill - following the proposed changes to the length of tenancies pending consultation, the abolition of the rent cap, enabling tenants to act when properties are unfit for habitation and to bring homes under local authority enforcement rules.
