This seminar discussed the key issues for delivering Health Education England’s full workforce strategy, ahead of its publication later this year.
It brought together key stakeholders, agencies and policymakers to share best practice in recruitment, retention and workforce experience across primary, secondary and social care.
Delegates assessed the key issues for the strategy and its potential impact, as well as practical issues for delivering its key aims of encouraging collaboration and integration across health and social care, enhancing data and measurement, improving recruitment, and reducing reliance on agency staff.
Key discussion points across the morning included:
- Priorities for ensuring patient centred care and meeting the needs of patients;
- Next steps for the integration of the health and social care workforce - looking at the role of local authorities in supporting carers and volunteers;
- Long term workforce planning - training and apprenticeships, skills and the challenges of responding to Brexit; and
- Supporting staff wellbeing - morale and staff engagement, mental health and the impact of the three-year pay deal.
