This seminar discussed the future for the UK construction industry - looking at innovation and key trends, improving delivery and efficiency and the future of the construction industry business model.

Timed following the launch of the Construction Sector Deal, sessions examined the use of innovation in the sector and further ways to support the sector to improve the efficiency of design and construction of buildings, increasing energy efficiency in the build stage and use of digital technology - and also included sessions on the £170m Transforming Construction Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.

Delegates also discussed the business model of the construction industry and plans outlined in the Deal to develop an agreed set of proposals to improve contractual and payment practices within the sector, and came as the Government takes forward measures which aims to end late payments to small business from larger companies.

Further sessions considered the implications of the skills needs of the construction industry - particularly looking at how best to utilise the £406m investment in STEM training, the future for retraining and retaining those within the sector through the National Retraining Scheme, and the development of new apprenticeship standards - with the Construction Sector Deal committing to implementation of the CITB review of the industry training boards.
