This conference focused on priorities for England’s road network and considered what would be needed for project infrastructure delivery, regional road modernisation, and the utilisation of innovative technology for smart motorway solutions.
This was a timely opportunity to discuss recent developments and next steps, the seminar took place following the publication of the Government’s Road Investment Strategy 2 (RIS2): 2020-2025 and Highways England’s (now National Highways) smart motorways stocktake First year progress report 2021, which sets out progress made so far on the 18 recommendations of the Smart motorway safety evidence stocktake and action plan.
Delegates also evaluated latest thinking around broader policy developments - such as the National Infrastructure Strategy and the Union Connectivity Review - and how these dovetail with priorities for England’s road network and smart highways.
We were pleased to be able to include keynote contributions from Nick Harris, Chief Executive, National Highways; Feras Alshaker, Deputy Director, Highways, Office of Rail and Road; and Ben Foulser, Director, Infrastructure Advisory Practice and Infrastructure Advisory Future Mobility, KPMG.
