December 2018

Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

At this seminar, delegates examined the impact of the 5-year funding increase for the NHS and the development of the wider NHS long Term Plan.

Attendees also discussed what more could be done to prepare for the winter demand, following the Government’s announcement of increased funding for hospitals to upgrade wards, redevelop A&Es and provide extra beds.

Sessions also covered how the new funding will affect the health and social care sectors more immediately - examining priorities for resource allocation, utilisation and efficiency as well as possible challenges, and further issues for the future of funding in the NHS.

Key discussion points across the morning included:

  • The future for NHS funding and service design - opportunities and challenges in the 5-year NHS funding plan;
  • Engaging providers in meeting future funding and efficiency targets;
  • Realising the potential from estates and procurement;
  • Integrating health and social care and key issues for funding allocations for public health services;
  • Supporting workforce development and effectiveness in primary care, secondary care and social care; and
  • Priorities for ensuring patient safety and the delivery of personalised care.
