This conference examined the priorities for supporting the integration of health and social care in England - with discussion on effective local leadership, and developing new regulatory approaches and accountability.
It was an opportunity to assess the Government’s Joining up care for people, places and populations white paper.
Stakeholders and policymakers discussed the practical steps, support and frameworks that will be required to transform the delivery of care - as well as the potential implications for health and social care providers, their staff, and those that depend on services.
Overall, areas for discussion included:
- governance - support for integration within the NHS and more widely - balance - parity of involvement for social care - the future role of primary care in local leadership
- commissioning - breaking down barriers - the NHS and local authority duty to collaborate - support for stakeholders with changes - resource sharing opportunities and challenges
- leadership - improving accountability and confidence in the system - disseminating best practice - developing collaborative cultures - clarity on responsibilities
- innovation - digital transformation and new approaches to utilising data - priority areas for enabling service delivery efficiencies and improvements
- patients - involvement of service users in the development of local services and pathways - improving flexibility and convenience for patients in access to care
- population health - the role of ICS in improvement of local public health outcomes - priorities for local leadership in preventative healthcare
- workforce - support for a highly pressured workforce - the long-term role of integrated care systems in workforce planning and managing care backlogs
We are pleased to have been able to include keynote sessions with Dr Rosie Benneyworth, Chief Inspector of Primary Medical Services and Integrated Care, CQC; Chris Hopson, Chief Executive, NHS Providers; Mark Adams, Chief Executive Officer, Community Integrated Care; and Professor Dean Fathers, Professor of Healthcare Leadership, University of Nottingham; and Chair, Lincoln International Institute of Rural Healthcare, University of Lincoln.
The conference was an opportunity for stakeholders to consider the issues alongside key policy officials who attended from the DHSC; MHRA; the CQC; the DIT; DLUHC; the Department of Health, NI; the DfE; HMPPS; HM Treasury; UKCVS; and The Scottish Government - as well as parliamentary pass-holders from the House of Lords.
