This conference considered next steps for UK fisheries.
It was an opportunity for stakeholders and policymakers to discuss the future outlook and direction for fisheries management across the UK as the Government consults on the draft Joint Fisheries Statement.
Delegates discussed:
- Fisheries Act implementation and enforcement, marine recovery, and policymaker engagement with the industry
- supporting coastal communities
- funding priorities, including for the EU European Maritime and Fisheries Fund and the UK’s Shared Prosperity Fund
- what is needed to promote competition, trade, and quotas, as well as priorities for future trade deals
- the way forward for the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) as it supports the UK in becoming an independent coastal state
- latest thinking on environmental practices, stewardship, and the future of Marine Protected Areas, and working with devolved administrations and other coastal states

The conference was an opportunity for stakeholders to consider the issues alongside key policy officials who attended from: Defra; the Food Standards Agency; Food Standards Scotland; Marine Scotland; the Office for Environmental Protection; BEIS; DIT; the FCDO; the Isle of Man Government; the Planning Inspectorate; The Scottish Government; and the Welsh Government - as well as parliamentary pass-holders from both Houses of Parliament.
