This conference followed the publication of the Government’s Agricultural Transition Plan 2021 to 2024, and discussed the changes it outlines alongside the implementation of the Government’s Environmental Land Management Schemes (ELMS), which include:
- the Sustainable Farming Incentive scheme
- the Local Nature Recovery scheme
- the Landscape Recovery scheme
The discussion also considered the future for agricultural land use in the context of wider policy developments, such as the Government’s passed Environment Act, in addition to the Agriculture Act and Action Plan for Animal Welfare, as well as the wider context of the pandemic and the impact of Brexit on the agriculture sector.
We are pleased to have been able to include keynote contributions including:
- Next steps for agriculture policy - with Victoria Prentis MP, Minister of State, Defra
- Next steps for agriculture and land use management - with Professor Gideon Henderson, Chief Scientific Advisor, Defra
- Effective environmental land management and supporting biodiversity - with Professor Michael Winter, Professor of Land Economy and Society, Centre for Rural Policy Research, University of Exeter; Board Member, Natural England; and Member, Joint Nature Conservation Committee
