Policymakers and stakeholders attending this conference assessed the priorities for the development of personalised and genomic medicine.
Attendees discussed the development of NHS England’s strategy for personalised medicine, with a particular focus on the prediction and prevention of disease, improving outcomes for patients and the potential for cost savings in the NHS.
Further sessions focused on the impact of Genomics England’s 100,000 Genomes Project, which aims to sequence 100,000 whole genomes from NHS patients, the challenge of innovating diagnostic technologies, the use of data and analytics to create the knowledge base, developing the workforce to deliver personalised medicine - including Health Education England’s Genomics Education Programme - and key issues for patient participation and involvement.
