This seminar assessed next steps for personalised healthcare in England.

Prior to the publication of the NHS Long Term Plan, which includes plans for the future of personalised care - including the roll-out of the NHS Personalised Care Model across England and the commitment to increase support for people to manage their own health - the conference was an opportunity to discuss the priorities for this plan, including the future role for social prescribing, co-production, and patient choice.

There was discussion on key issues emerging from the Government’s consultation on widening personal health budgets and integrated personal budgets.

Further sessions examined the early findings from the IPC pilot programmes rolled out in 18 areas across England - as each trials a different approach to tailor services to individual needs and integrate services across health, social care and the voluntary and community sectors. With NHS England aiming to make IPC a mainstream model of care across England by 2020, delegates focused in particular on progress so far and how these findings might inform further roll-outs.

Following the Government’s commitment to expand Integrated Personal Commissioning and PHBs to between 50,000 and 100,000 people by March 2021, the seminar provided an opportunity to assess their contribution so far in enhancing care and the quality of life.

Attendees considered what more might be done to develop the evidence base on the impact of PHBs, how budgets have been used and the extent to which this has been successful, as well as who should be eligible in the future and what further steps might be taken to improve safeguarding arrangements for budget holders.
