July 2017

Price: £95 PLUS VAT
Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

This conference discussed priorities for the future of the UK nuclear industry, looking at international relationships and the supply chain going forward, as well legal, regulatory and investment issues - and the development of an industrial strategy for nuclear.

It followed the NAO report on the decision to move ahead with the Hinkley Point C project, which found that the Government had not adequately considered the costs and risks of the deal to consumers. It also took place in the context of the UK leaving the European Union and Euratom, with discussion on strategy options for forging new alliances and agreements for global supply chain access, securing new sources of investment and the potential challenges of developing a new nuclear safeguarding framework for the UK.

Further sessions considered the latest developments in nuclear technology, including the potential role of SMR and micro-modular technology, as well as latest thinking on the environmental impact of nuclear projects - particularly in the areas of waste and decommissioning - and the strategies the industry is developing to deal with the issues. Delegates also focused on the long-term strategies for dealing with skills shortages, engaging local authorities and communities on nuclear infrastructure and changes to the third party liability regime for reactors.
