The seminar discussed the Government’s 25-Year Environment Plan and the challenges for meeting its primary goals for enhancing and protecting the UK’s environment - including improving air and water quality, reducing the risk of harm from environmental hazards and encouraging more efficient and sustainable usage of natural resources.
Delegates considered the further steps that might be taken to protect the environment - looking at the funding mechanisms and access to capital for new schemes, and the priorities for protecting species and habitats post-Brexit.
Sessions also brought out latest thinking on how the direction of policy fits in with the commercial use of land, the future relationship between conservation and good business practice, latest thinking on the role of the planning system in environmental protection, and challenges for developing the evidence base to inform policy decision-making.
