One year on from the publication of the Five Year Forward View for Mental Health, this seminar provided an opportunity to discuss policy priorities for mental health services.
Delegates assessed challenges for reducing variations in the commissioning of mental health services, progress on improving acute crisis response and providing crisis teams in all A&E departments, and next steps for developing the specialist mental health workforce and raising NHS staff awareness.
Further areas for discussion included priorities for reducing suicide rates, next steps for improving post and perinatal mental health care, improving training within the police and other emergency services to deal with cases of acute mental health episodes, and meeting the mental health needs of marginalised patient groups.
