This seminar discussed the future for medical technologies, devices and diagnostics in England, following the Government’s announcement of regulatory changes and new funding in its response to the Accelerated Access Review.
Delegates considered priorities for improving access to technology, and for increasing its uptake in the NHS in light of the £86m funding package - which included a Pathway Transformation Fund to tackle barriers to adoption and help integration; allocations for the Digital Health Technology Catalyst and for Academic Health Science Networks to improve local adoption.
Further sessions looked at NHS England’s extended Test Bed programme, in the context of the launch of the second wave of test beds - as well as the next steps for the NHS Innovation Accelerator.
Attendees assessed further measures to support uptake and increase access - including the Innovation and Technology Payment (ITP) as NHS England announces four innovations that will be fast-tracked through the ITP programme. Those attending also examined the impact of Brexit on patient access to medical technologies, following Brexit Health Alliance’s report which called on the Government to publish its plans for the regulation of devices urgently.
