Delegates at this conference considered priorities for developing London's transport network.
The seminar was scheduled to facilitate engagement on transport strategy in the new Mayoral term, and provided a timely opportunity to consider significant policy developments from national government - including proposals included in Budget 2016 to prioritise the delivery of Crossrail 2.
The discussion was also informed by the National Infrastructure Commission’s Transport for a World City report - which, alongside recommendations on Crossrail 2, set out long-term challenges for London in the areas of rail and Underground capacity, orbital links and ensuring access to future areas of housing growth.
Sessions focused on the planning, funding and delivery of key infrastructure and modernisation projects across the Capital’s transport network, including latest developments in rail, road, the Underground and cycling and walking. Discussion also examined priorities for transport service-users across the Capital, particularly in terms of accessibility, affordability, safety and sustainability.
The conference brought together a senior and informed group including Members of both Houses of Parliament, senior officials from the GLA and relevant central Government Departments, together with transport operators, construction companies, business associations, local councils, technology providers, consultants, and passenger groups, as well as members of the national and trade press.
