This seminar focused on the future of the life sciences industry in the UK. It was scheduled as the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy consulted on the Industrial Strategy, which will set out an early life sciences sector deal - and in the context of uncertainty for the sector following the UK’s vote to leave the European Union.
Delegates considered proposals from the UK EU Life Sciences Transition Programme on managing the transition and how this presents challenges and opportunities for industry, with a particular focus on regulation - with priorities for the MHRA and the European Medicines Agency, as well as the next steps for research and development.
Further sessions focused on clinical trials and encouraging patient participation, in light of the launch of the European Commission’s new Clinical Trial Regulation in 2018; key issues for workforce development - including skills, recruitment and retention - as well as the next steps for encouraging innovation in the NHS after the publication of the Accelerated Access Review.
