Examining the next steps for UK food labelling policy, this conference took place in the context of uncertainty over the future for domestic food labelling policy post-Brexit.
Sessions considered the future for UK food information regulation in relation to wider policy objectives - including the Obesity Plan and promoting healthier food choices, as well as increasing the UK food and drink industry’s international competitiveness and encouraging greater transparency on product origins, quality and animal welfare standards.
With Defra publishing its areas of interest for research - including on more effective labelling and consumer confidence in food - delegates discussed the future of food labelling regulation in a changing food retail market, as well as the potential impact of new international trading relationships, and the challenges for achieving consistency across all four nations of the UK.
