Following the publication of NHS England’s Next steps on the Five Year Forward View document and its recommendations on reducing waiting times and unwarranted variation in elective surgery, delegates at this seminar considered the priorities for the commissioning and provision of eye health and visual impairment in England.
Attendees discussed the work of Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships and their impact on eye health, the developing role and priorities for the Clinical Council for Eye Health Commissioning - as well as the development of the Getting it Right First Time (GIRFT) programme and its potential impact on tackling variations in service delivery and the generation of cost-savings for the NHS.
Further sessions focused on the redesign of eye health services and pathways, including upscaling prevention and public health; priorities for improving the availability and sharing of data; the next steps for regulation and the scope and potential impact of expected NICE guidelines on the management of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration.
