This conference brought together policymakers with key stakeholders to discuss next steps for the consumer credit regime, including consumer protection, developing industry standards and the impact of the Consumer Credit Act on businesses and consumers.
It was timed to discuss the interim report from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) on its review of the Consumer Credit Act, as the final review is prepared for publication.
Delegates discussed the introduction of FCA rules following their consultation on Assessing creditworthiness and affordability in consumer credit, and measures to support responsible lending to protect vulnerable consumers, such as improving transparency of contracts, as well as latest thinking on the effective regulation of the credit card market.
Further sessions examined the emerging regulatory priorities for ensuring fair access to credit and protecting consumers in High-cost Credit - as the FCA proposes new measures in its review to encourage competition and reduce the complexity of pricing structures - including the pay-day loan cap and the implications of a cap on rent-to-own prices.
