This conference focused on the future for the UK’s commercial property market, including what the sector needs from policymakers and regulators in light of Brexit and the changing policy environment.
It was timed amid a range of policy and regulatory developments impacting on the sector, including:
- The recently announced removal of capital gains tax relief for foreign investors in UK commercial property;
- The FCA consultation on ‘illiquid assets’ and investment funds, and its review of property funds and risks;
- Government consultation on Local Authorities Investment Code and Minimum Revenue Provision - which aims to increase the transparency of Local Authorities commercial property investments;
- The forthcoming business rate switch to the CPI in 2018, and 100% business rates retention pilots for local authorities; and
- Ahead of the launch of the Government Property Agency, which will take responsibility for the public sector property portfolio.
Speakers and delegates were a senior and informed group including Members of both Houses of Parliament, senior government officials involved in this area of public policy, together with commercial property lettings and management companies, developers, local authorities, Local Enterprise Partnerships, business associations, public sector estate holders, the associated legal and financial services sectors along with interested consultancies and economists - as well as members of the national and trade media.
