This timely seminar explored character education in England and the future for the National Citizen Service (NCS).
Sessions identified how well the education system is equipped to deliver character education to pupils, brought out the latest best practice in its teaching at both primary and secondary level, and considered issues for teacher training and development.
Further sessions explored the future for the National Citizen Service following the granting of Royal Assent to the National Citizen Act which places the service on a statutory footing, and the National Audit Office report on the service released in January 2017.
Delegates considered how the NCS Trust can ensure both efficient and effective delivery of the service in future years with further growth planned, and how the increased focus on the NCS has impacted upon the delivery of citizenship skills more widely.
They also discussed steps to establish plans to evaluate the longer-term outcomes of NCS for young people and to ensure that all young people are provided with the opportunity to participate regardless of individual circumstances.
