This seminar brought together policymakers with stakeholders involved with the publishing sector, to consider the key commercial opportunities and challenges for UK book publishing and the wider creative market.
Sessions examined how the sector is responding to changing consumer trends - particularly the reported increase in the sale of physical books and the emergence of mobile as a key publishing platform.
Further discussion analysed the latest thinking on discoverability, including digital marketing strategies for building audiences and widening access, product innovation and the next steps for physical retail, as well as the impact of digital self-publishing on authorship, curation and diversity.
Delegates also assessed the potential impact of Brexit on distribution, investment and copyright, on global competitiveness, and on the widening range of monetisation opportunities and creative collaborations with the screen and the wider digital industries - as well as how new technologies and adaptation strategies are being utilised to generate more diverse content.
