This seminar examined the developing funding landscape for TV content in the UK, and further steps required to attract investment, encourage competition and expand the UK’s position in the global market.
Delegates examined how changing viewing habits and increased competition are impacting investment and commercial strategies - particularly in terms of the commissioning and production of original content, and technology and service innovation.
They also discussed developments in public funding and support for programming - including the shape of contestable funding, and the regulation of channel prominence - and the importance of retention of IP ownership for building the value proposition of production companies.
Further sessions considered the UK’s future role as both a production and creative hub, and key priorities for the development of international content and exports - including fostering creative and commercial partnerships, attracting inward investment, and the potential impact of Brexit and increased overseas funding on British identity in programming.
