Attendees at this annual Westminster Health Forum Keynote Seminar assessed the future of NICE in health and social care.
It came in light of the publication of the Accelerated Access Review, which makes a number of recommendations aimed at quickening and simplifying the process for getting treatments from preclinical development to patients. These include the creation of a new Accelerated Access Partnership between NICE, MHRA, NHS England and NHS Improvement to coordinate development, regulation and cost-effectiveness, as well as improved horizon scanning for innovative new products, better data on the impact of technologies on patient outcomes and local support for the spread of innovation.
Planned sessions also looked at proposals to speed up health technology assessments, and on NICE’s delivery of the new Cancer Drugs Fund, new guidelines in development, challenges for reducing regional variations of care - as well as NICE’s engagement with the changing healthcare sector as part of its Business Plan.
