This seminar focused on the future of Electricity Market Reform, and possible changes to the Contracts for Difference and Capacity Market auction process.
Delegates discussed the policy priorities for further decarbonisation of the UK’s electricity generation whilst ensuring security of supply for the future.
In the run-up to the next Contracts for Difference auction the conference was a timely opportunity to consider the proposed changes to the scheme, such as the inclusion of remote island onshore wind, changes to the definition of ‘waste’ and the outlook for less established technologies more generally.
Further sessions looked at the possible inclusion of renewables in the Capacity Market and potential ways to further support innovation and provide the best deal for the consumer - with discussion on the challenges for developing a smart, flexible energy system and what this will mean for meeting the UK’s energy requirements.
