This seminar provided a timely opportunity for stakeholders to consider priorities for the new Government in developing policies to improve quality, training and development of the teaching workforce, including plans for a new College of Teaching.
Delegates considered the issue of teaching quality in light of the recommendations of the Headteacher standards review. Sessions also looked at further steps to improve teaching quality and development, including government's plan for a self-evaluating independent college of teaching, as well as measures to boost teacher recruitment and retention, in light of the teaching recruitment ‘crisis’.
Further sessions looked at measures to reduce workload for teachers, following the recommendations of the Workload Challenge survey, as well as steps to improve continuing professional development (CPD) and training for TAs, teachers and headteachers alike.
