This conference brought together content creators, broadcasters, publishers, online platforms and consumer groups to examine the emerging commercial and service opportunities for providing children with multi-platform, UK-produced content going forward. It followed the Chancellor's announcement of a tax break for children's live-action series from April 2015.
Delegates considered latest thinking on how to leverage new - as well as traditional - distribution channels for children's content and assessed the impact of the entrance of international online platforms - such as YouTube, Amazon and Netflix - on competition and market dynamics. Delegates also discussed the future for support and investment from Government, UK broadcasters and others for original children's content creation, particularly in the context of the BBC Charter Renewal process.
The agenda also looked at how regulation and industry best practice can address concerns about children's increased use of digital media - particularly in relation to in-app purchasing and online advertising - and the priorities for ensuring children and young people have access to age-appropriate, high-quality and educational content in the online age.
