Taking place in the lead-up to the General Election, this seminar considered policy priorities for the new Government to support and grow the music economy in the UK, and the emerging commercial opportunities for artists, publishers, sponsors and service providers in the digital and live music markets.
Delegates examined how artists are faring in the changing market, the impact of consolidation and new entrants in the digital music space on market dynamics and business models as well as the opportunities for revenue generation to support growth and increase artist remuneration.
The agenda also included discussion on the priorities for protecting intellectual property rights to ensure the UK music industry's success in the digital age, as industry bodies sought a judicial review of the introduced private copyright exception and as the European Commission began to take legislative steps towards a connected digital single market.
Further sessions examined the emerging commercial opportunities in the live music market and how the sector can continue to innovate and engage audiences - including technologies, novel experiences and brand partnerships.
