This seminar focused on the reform of Ofsted's school inspection framework to be introduced from September 2015.
Following Ofqual's confirmation of the reforms to England's school inspection framework, delegates discussed the likely impact of proposed reforms including: the introduction of a common inspection framework for schools, colleges and Early Years settings; bringing the management of all school and further education inspections in-house from September 2015; plans for a new 'light-touch inspections' for 'Good' and 'Outstanding' schools, and the introduction of no-notice inspections where standards of behaviour are giving cause for concern.
Wider discussion also included how to tackle concerns over the consistency of inspections, the impact of the revised inspection framework for non-association independent schools, lessons that can be learnt from other public sector accountability systems, and Ofsted's role in inspecting academy chains.
Attendees included policymakers and regulatory officials with key stakeholders involved in school inspections and accountability, including school and college leaders, representatives from local authorities, parent and governor groups, representatives from teaching unions, representatives from think-tanks and academics with an interest in these important issues.
