With the proposed reforms to AS and A-levels due to be implemented in September 2015, delegates at this seminar discussed key issues moving forward.
Delegates discussed the 'decoupling' of AS and A-levels, changes to assessment arrangements and planned alterations to core subjects. They also examined subject-specific amendments, such as the introduction of a separate exam in Science for practical skills and reduced weighting for non-exam assessment in English.
Further sessions considered changes to the modular structure of A-levels in favour of a linear design, criticisms of a 'resit culture' and proposals for assessment to be exam only. In addition to this, delegates examined the future role of the higher education sector in deciding subject content and whether the new reforms will better prepare students for the workplace and university.
