Health and safety reform - regulation, litigation and risk

December 2014

Price: £95 PLUS VAT
Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

The focus of this seminar was the future of health and safety in the UK at a time of wide-ranging reform, and what more can be done to develop a modernised and proportionate framework. The discussion was scheduled as Government approached the final stages of implementing Professor Löfstedt's review of health and safety law - which sought wide-ranging reforms to the scope, application and enforcement of regulation in this area. The seminar also provided an opportunity to consider progress made following the Triennial Review of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) - with stakeholder perspectives on what more the body can do to innovate and develop good governance.
Sessions brought together policymakers and regulators with affected stakeholders - such as businesses, unions, insurers, consultants and law firms. Delegates had the opportunity to consider how reforms can reduce burdens on businesses whilst also maintaining adequate safeguards for employees, with particular reference to initiatives to reduce regulatory complexity, improve local authority enforcement and reform pre-action protocols and civil liability.
