This seminar provided a timely opportunity to examine the next steps for the UK games industry and for policymakers to ensure the sector can compete effectively in the global digital marketplace.
It took place as the first UK video game developers received tax relief for qualifying cultural productions and in light of the recently secured £6.5m investment for skill development by the Next Gen Skills Academy.
Those taking part also discussed the emerging commercial opportunities offered by next generation 'connected' consoles, including digital distribution, and the rise of mobile gaming. Sessions also considered key regulatory challenges for the sector - particularly in relation to piracy and the protection of children from the pressures of in-game purchasing in light of the Office of Fair Trading's report Children's online games.
