Bringing together policymakers with senior stakeholders from across the sector, this seminar focused on next steps for policy to ensure continued economic and creative growth in the UK film industry.
It was informed by the progress report outlining new challenges for the UK film industry, BFI and Government two years on from the Film Policy review, the signed film co-production treaty between the UK and China, as well as proposed changes to the film tax-relief to be legislated in the Finance Bill 2014.
Delegates assessed the Government's domestic and international strategy for UK film going forward in relation to the principal objectives of the Review. Sessions also considered next steps for UK film to remain competitive in the international marketplace, particularly in relation to investment, co-productions, talent and production facilities; the opportunities to further capitalise in the digital marketplace - including new revenue models, online distribution and reducing copyright infringement; as well as how to further develop domestic audiences through national and local initiatives, widening access to and investment in UK film across media platforms, and film education for young people.
