Delegates at this conference discussed opportunities and challenges for the commissioning and delivery of eye care in England.
With NHS England working on the 'Call to Action' for Eye Health - focusing on prevention and early detection as part of developing a strategic approach to commissioning in the sector - and work ongoing to achieve national coverage of community services, attendees considered the impact of NHS England and the Clinical Council for Eye Health Commissioning on the commissioning of services; the progress and next steps for Local Eye Health Networks and Clinical Commissioning Groups in meeting local needs; and the potential for delivering service redesign.
Attendees also considered the key issues surrounding regulation - with the General Optical Council reviewing their codes of conduct - as well as development of eye care standards by NICE and Public Health England.
