Scheduled one year on from Government's strategy, and as clinical commissioning groups and local authorities were expected to develop joint strategic plans on implementation, this seminar provided a timely opportunity to consider next steps for NHS England's commissioning model for offender health services.
The seminar brought together leading policymakers with affected stakeholders from across criminal justice and offender health service provision - such as regional and local NHS offender health teams, mental health trusts, probation and prison workers, senior representatives from law firms and local government as well as academics, charities and interested campaign groups. Sessions brought out latest thinking on the implementation of the new national contract framework for offender health commissioning, particularly in relation to how the new operating model will be co-ordinated and executed by NHS England and regional teams - as well as possible transitional challenges ahead for practitioners and service-users at a time of significant reform and restructure.
