Timed as schools prepared to implement the first performance-linked pay awards for teachers in September 2014, this seminar focused on key implementation issues around teacher pay, conditions, and teaching standards.
Delegates discussed how schools could ensure fairness and transparency in their assessments of teacher performance and pay awards, and the impact on teaching standards of removing the link between length of service and pay progression for all schools in England and Wales.
Topics for discussion included the likely effect of the reforms on encouraging excellent candidates to enter teaching and progress to leadership positions, as well as proposals under consideration by the School Teachers' Review Body on leadership pay and teachers' non-pay conditions.
This conference brought together senior policymakers and officials with key stakeholders, including school leaders, local authority representatives, teaching unions, employment lawyers, teacher training professionals and other interested parties.
