This seminar presented an opportunity to discuss how the challenges facing emergency and urgent care could be addressed, and the key issues surrounding service reconfiguration.
Following Sir Bruce Keogh's report on the first stage of his review of urgent and emergency care in England, which recommended a two-tier A&E system, and with struggling A&E units to be given a £500m bailout, sessions looked at the future structure of services, financial pressures faced by providers, and the commissioning challenges for out of hours care more widely.
The conference also followed reports on emergency care by the National Audit Office and Health Select Committee, which recommended better access to general practice, more specialist units and better community services.
With the Secretary of State and GPC both making recommendations on the role of GPs in out of hours care and the Prime Minister's proposals for seven day, 8am-8pm services, further sessions focused on the implications of restructuring primary and secondary care services for patients, providers and the workforce - as well as the progress of NHS 111.
