This timely seminar provided an opportunity to discuss the future of cultural education of young people in England, following Government's report into the programmes and opportunities available.
Sessions focused on key issues around cultural education, including the balance and choice of activities young people should receive, as well as the role of schools and external organisations in ensuring all young people have a sound knowledge of culture and are able to participate in and create new culture.
The conference followed the release of the National Curriculum programmes of study for Music and Art and Design, and delegates considered how these and wider reforms to education affect the delivery of cultural education, as well as the extent of provision for young people with a strong interest in particular areas of culture.
This conference brought together individuals and organisations who will be central to the future development and implementation of cultural education, including school and college leaders, local authority representatives, youth and arts charities, cultural venues, and other arts organisations, with senior policymakers.
