This seminar was timed as the Government finalised the regulatory and subject content requirements for the reformed AS and A-levels, due to be introduced from 2015. Delegates discussed implementation issues for the new examinations including the impact of removing modules and moving to an end-of-course examination structure; the potential impact on cost of examinations; and the implications for accessibility.
Sessions also focused upon whether the new structure for A-levels is suitable to be extended to all current A-level subjects, as well as plans to split AS and A-Levels into two standalone qualifications, and how the new qualifications fit with the new 16-19 Study Programmes which were rolled out in September. The conference brought together key policymakers and affected stakeholders - including school leaders, teaching unions, pupil and parent groups, publishers, local authorities and awarding bodies.
