Following Government's announcement of the content for reformed GCSEs, to be taught in England from 2015, and Ofqual's publication of design details for the qualifications, this seminar brought together stakeholders - including school leaders, teaching unions, publishers, local authorities, awarding bodies - to discuss implementation issues for the new examinations. Delegates discussed the new format and structure of the exams, including reducing tiering and coursework, and moving to a linear format; the proposed move to a numerical grading system; the potential impact of the reforms on the teaching and assessment of non-core, creative or practical subjects; and the implications of the reforms for accessibility of subjects at Key Stage 4.
