Delegates at this seminar considered steps to address the literacy and numeracy challenge identified in Estyn's Annual Report, and examined the progress of the Literacy and Numeracy Framework.
They discussed the content of the Literacy and Numeracy Framework and whether it is likely to be successful in improving standards in Wales. Delegates also discussed raising the skills of teachers, to deliver effective numeracy and literacy across the curriculum, and to complete the new teacher-led pupil assessments. Further sessions looked at how literacy and numeracy improvement fits with learning outside of English and Maths in light of the Welsh Government Review of all of the National Curriculum core and other foundation subjects at each Key Stage, and their subsequent assessment.
