This seminar brought together key policymakers, regulators and stakeholders to assess the regulation of claims management services. The seminar took place six months on from the implementation of Government's referral fee ban across personal injury claims, and was timed to assess the impact of wider revisions to the industry's conduct rules introduced in July 2013 - which aimed to strengthen consumer protection across claims management sectors.
Sessions brought together claims management companies (CMCs) and legal practitioners working across regulated claims sectors - including (but not limited to) personal injury and financial products litigation - alongside representatives from insurers, financial services, accident management companies, campaign groups and consumer bodies. Delegates considered how policymakers can respond to recent growth in the sector - most notably arising from claims for mis-sold payment protection insurance (PPI) - as well as how the sector can most effectively tackle issues relating to fraud and malpractice, whilst promoting access to justice for potential claimants.
