This seminar brought together key policymakers and stakeholders to assess the future of the family justice system in England and Wales, and has brought out latest thinking on Government's ongoing agenda for reform in this area. It was scheduled as Parliamentarians debated the Children and Families Bill, expected to bring about significant reforms to public and private family law, and also provided delegates with an opportunity to discuss progress made under the Judiciary's Family Justice Modernisation Programme as it entered its second phase of implementation.
Sessions focused on how proposals for public law reform might impact on the family courts - looking at the future use of judicial time limits, case management and expert reports, as well as how social care practice might support an evolving family justice system. Delegates also had the opportunity to consider key changes being implemented across private law, looking at legislative reforms to the concept of post-separation shared parenting, as well as what more can be done to support cost-effective dispute resolution both inside and outside of court.
