Following political agreement on reform of the Common Agricultural Policy, this seminar provided a timely opportunity to assess the challenges for implementing reforms in the UK. It brought together key policymakers from Parliament and Whitehall with stakeholders with an interest in forthcoming changes in this area - including regulators, farming and agricultural research sectors, the food and drink industry, local authorities, charities, academia and consumer groups.
Sessions focused on the challenges for making farming more competitive and more sustainable, with particular attention to the four main legal proposals covering direct payments, support for rural development, the single Common Market Organisation (CMO) and horizontal financial control and monitoring procedures.
