This timely seminar provided an opportunity to assess the future of NHS procurement, with the publication of the NHS Procurement Strategy by the Department of Health in summer 2013.
Delegates considered procurement at local, regional and national levels, the role of Clinical Commissioning Groups, collaboration and competition in procurement, and the importance of innovative practice.
Further topics discussed included the potential for procurement in the NHS to drive up quality and value, as well as findings from the call for evidence, potential cost savings for the NHS and the possible implementation issues surrounding the strategy.
